Location:Down Town Victoria

Event ends:12:00 pm, Sunday, 29 April, 2018
Details: Dear Parents:

The Times Colonist 1.5km Run for children will take place at 11 a.m. on Sunday April 29th, 2018. The race starts and finishes on Government Street by the side of the Legislature Building.

We are delighted to have a huge team of over 50 participants represent the school at this event. Please note: If you have not done so already, you will need to register your son / daughter. This can be done at the Victoria Crystal Gardens on either Friday April 27th, or Saturday April 28th, 2018. Parents that wish to run with their children do not have to register (but will not receive a race package). For those students whom registered by the deadline (and under the SMUS Blue Jags name), I will be collecting and distributing the race packages at school on Friday April 27th, 2018. If your son / daughter was unable to practise with the school team, but they are registered to run, they are still very welcome to join us on race day.

Details for race day
• There will be literally thousands of people in the Inner Harbour participating in these races and supervision of our large school team will require parent support. We will meet at 10:20 a.m. opposite Murchies Tea Shop on Government Street at the entrance to The Bay. Thus, we can shelter inside The Bay if it is cold. At 10:30 a.m. we will depart and walk to the start line in front of the Empress. I will then lead the students on a warm-up run.

• The start lines are designated by student age with grade 5/6 students starting at the front and Kg students at the back.

• Young Athletes (especially in our primary grades) without a parent running in support will be matched and run with another SMUS runner and their parent.

• If you miss our 10:30 a.m. departure, please proceed to the start line and meet us there.

• Students may wear their race t-shirt or school gym strip.

After the race
• The finishing line is carefully controlled for athlete safety. Runners will be funneled toward one exit (on the lawn of the Legislature). They will receive a medal of participation and can gather drinks and snacks.

• Parents can collect their child at the exit. Students without a parent running with them can be collected at the fountain on the lawn of the Legislature.

Yours sincerely,

Gary Barber
