| Details: | Dear parents: Happy New Year! I do hope you had restful and enjoyable holidays. I would like to give you an important update regarding the SMUS Swimming Club. Each year we hold our practises starting in January at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre Pool. Unfortunately, just before Christmas the pool developed a serious leak requiring closure and urgent repairs. I have just been informed that the pool will re-open on Saturday January 7th, 2017. This means our practises originally scheduled for Thursday January 5th, 2017 (grade 3 students) and Friday January 6th, 2017 (grade 4 and 5 students) are cancelled. The Swimming Club for grade 3 students will now start on Thursday January 12th, 2017. The students will be transported to the pool and will practise from 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. Parents will need to collect their child at the pool. Students should also bring 25 cents for a locker. In order to sign-up for this club, please send me an email along with any relevant information about previous swimming experience (levels). Practises will be held on January 12th, 19th, 26th, February 2nd, 16th, 23rd, and will conclude on March 2nd, 2017. The students in grades 4 and 5 will start their Swimming Club on Friday January 13th, 2017. Please note the start time is different to that of the grade 3 club. Our students in grades 4/5 will leave school just before 3 p.m. and then have their practises from 3:15 - 4 p.m. Students will then need to be collected from the pool at 4 p.m. Practises will be held on January 13th, 20th, 27th, February 3rd, 17th and will conclude on February 24th. In order to sign-up for this club, please send me an email along with any relevant information about previous swimming experience (levels). Competitions The Swimming Club will prepare the students for two competitions - both of which are held at the Commonwealth Pool. The ISEA Swimming Jamboree is held on Monday January 16th from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The VISAA Swimming Jamboree is held on Monday February 6th from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Details will be sent out closer to the date.
